Timber Cascades: Extending Carbon Timelines in the Built Environment

#5

While timber is seen as a crucial pathway to decarbonization in the built environment, the balance between manufacturing emissions and sequestration is often overlooked, and the consequences of digitizing the timber value chain unknown. Building upon the three research areas of cascading through digital fabrication for sawmill offcuts, carbon storage modelling for multiple reclaiming cycles and LCA integration in digital design workflows, the session aims at fostering a discussion of carbon timelines in the built environment. The session will start with an introduction and sharing of relevant work by participants, followed by a cascading and carbon storage modelling exploration with the help of a custom calculator and a discussion of the results.

Should participants be interested in sharing related research, please reach out to ngau[at]kglakademi.dk no later than Thursday, 10 September – 12:00am.
