Hackathon
Research & Practice Hackathon – Lausanne, 10 September
The Research & Practice Hackathon brings conference participants together for spontaneous, high‑energy exchanges around a set of curated topics. Designed as a counterpoint to the more structured rhythm of paper sessions and traditional workshops, the Hackathon creates space for informal, small‑group interaction that sparks new connections and insights.
The format is intentionally flexible. Each topic session may take the shape of short presentations, demos, tutorials, discussions, debates, or collaborative work sprints – whatever best supports exploration and exchange. Participants can join any topic freely, subject to conference registration, room capacity or format-specific limitations and do not need to register in advance. The Hackathon is scheduled for approx. three hours.
Contribute a Topic
Topic proposals are submitted by participants and curated by the conference team. Proposals can be submitted by individuals or small groups. We encourage topic leaders to propose themes that address current challenges in the field — whether technical, practical, or related to societal impact, policy or more. The goal is to create sessions where meaningful discussion or hands‑on collaboration can emerge.
Topic leaders will shape their session’s format, schedule, and mode of interaction. We recommend fast‑paced sessions with quick turn‑around and exchanges rather than lengthy presentations, to keep the energy high and the conversation moving. We will provide standard office supplies, as well as presentation screens. We are happy to work with you to find the best format for your topic!
Outcomes from each session will be collected and shared with the full conference audience during a dedicated plenary moment.
Both, topic leaders and Hackathon participants need to be registered conference participants, the Hackathon is included in the conference registration fee.
